About the Boathouse

As the Hanover High School, Dartmouth College, and community rowing continue to grow, existing facilities are no longer adequate to serve the needs of all of these programs.  HHS Crew needs its own home.  In 2008 Friends of Hanover Crew purchased property on Route 10 in Hanover, adjacent to the Wilson’s Landing access road.  After many long and arduous permitting steps, we broke ground in April 2013 and will launch the HHS Crew team from the site in April 2014!

Raised to Date:  $750,000                         Campaign Goal:  $900,000

Community Assets:  FOHC is pleased to make these resources available to others in the community, and to support the development of youth rowers in the Upper Valley as a whole.  The low-profile dock will be gifted to the Town of Hanover, and fully available to the public from April through October, beginning in 2014.  It will provide easier launching opportunities for recreational canoers and kayakers, and will be the only handicapped-accessible dock on the Connecticut River for miles in either direction.

We Need Your Help with our $900,000 “Ready to Row” Campaign! To launch HHS crew from the site, we must raise $900,000 to fund construction, dock installation, and extensive site work.We have raised over $750,000 of this already!

There is no cost to Hanover and Norwich taxpayers: all portions of the project are being funded through private donations. Converting the site to a functional rowing operation requires much work:

Site and architectural designs $15,000
Boat shed construction, 72’ x 58’ $350,000
Site work:  Driveway, parking, well, grading, walkways, landscaping $250,000
Purchase and installation of a low-profile, handicapped accessible 180-foot dock $100,000
Barn: safety and operational renovations $100,000
Farmhouse safety renovations $25,000
Contingency reserve $60,000

Annual operating costs of $15,000/year for ongoing maintenance of buildings and grounds, utilities, and insurance will be funded through high school and user fees, rack rentals, and donations.
